Turtle Control
There are five main turtles that can be found locally, they are as follows; painted, snapping, spiny soft-shell, and yellow mud turtles. Snapping turtles pose the only threat that comes out of the turtle community. A large creature that can weigh up to 65 pounds, snapping turtles like to live in slow-moving bodies of water. As omnivores, these turtles eat both plants and animals. They will munch down on some algae or feast on small fish and birds. Mostly known for scavenging, snapping turtles will often eating animals that have drowned or fish that end up dying in a body of water.
Turtles are carriers of salmonella, this isn’t just a food-borne illness. Salmonella bacteria, can easily be transmitted to people. Avoid snapping turtles if possible, as they are quite aggressive in nature. They have extremely strong jaws that can inflict damage upon animal and person alike. Be especially careful if you have any small pets as snapping turtles are a danger to them.
